Sources & methodology

How the planner works, where its guidance comes from and what it cannot assess.

An independent planning tool

WW3 Prep helps organise household preparedness. It is not an emergency authority, an alert service or a prediction of war or disaster. We do not calculate survival probabilities.

Transparent rules

Water uses household size, chosen duration and the storage baseline explained in the water guide. Babies count as people in this general reserve; the result is not infant-feeding advice. Checklist items respond to children, babies, pets and the scenario. Completing every item does not establish readiness for every hazard.

International scope

English and Portuguese use the same methodology. Country selection changes shopping options and reference links, not the water baseline. Selecting a country does not mean the calculation is validated for that country. Check your local emergency-management authority for regional instructions.

WW3 and planning periods

This planner organises conflict-related disruption; it does not predict attacks or guarantee safety. The user-selected 48 hours are an initial step: CDC water guidance recommends at least three days. One month means 30 days. Long-term home reserves are not backpack weight targets.

Food calculations

Reference no-cook basket per person/day: cornflakes 60 g, crispbread 150 g, beans 120 g drained, chickpeas 120 g drained, sardines 120 g (or lentils 240 g drained for the plant option), vegetables 240 g drained, fruit 200 g, UHT drink 250 mL, olive oil 30 mL and jam 30 g. These are editorial shopping assumptions, not official allowances or a nutritionally assessed diet. The same starting basket is used for ages 1+; adjust for age, appetite and restrictions. Infants are separate. We multiply people × days × daily amount, then round up to the displayed pack size. Sizes vary by country and shop: check net/drained weight and buy an equivalent total. Opened food still requires suitable storage; refrigeration is not assumed.

Pet food and water

Total food = normal daily grams × days ÷ 1000. Bags = total kg ÷ bag kg, rounded up. Days per bag = kg × 1000 ÷ daily grams. The daily amount comes from the label or veterinary plan, never from bag size alone. For dogs we use 60 mL/kg/day as a water estimate, within Merck Veterinary Manual’s 44–66 mL/kg reference in a thermoneutral environment. Heat, activity, diet and health change needs. Do not limit water or reduce food to stretch stock. Keep the normal feeding plan. For other species, enter usual consumption and use species-specific advice.
